More literally, Kia is a Persian name meaning king, protector, and defender, which may also to attribute homage to over 2500 year legacy ofPersian monarchy and civilization at the cultural crossroads of the Silk Road that historically connected East and West. These attributes are reinforced by Kia's naming of some models, and its defense division.

South Korea's oldest car company, Kia was founded on June 9, 1944 as a manufacturer of steel tubing and bicycle parts by hand – and has operated as one of the country's Chaebols since. In 1951 Kia began building complete bicycles. In 1952, Kia changed its name fromKyungsung Precision Industry,[6] and later built motorcycles (starting in 1957), trucks (1962) and cars (1974). The company opened its first integrated automotive assembly plant in 1973, the Sohari Plant. Starting in 1986, in partnership with Ford, Kia produced several Mazda derived vehicles for both domestic sales in South Korea into other countries. These models include the Pride (based on the Mazda 121) andAvella, which were sold in North America and Australasia as the Ford Festiva and Ford Aspire.
In 1992, Kia Motors America was incorporated in the United States. The first Kia-branded vehicles in the United States were sold from four dealerships in Portland, Oregon in February 1994.[citation needed] Since then, Kia expanded methodically one region at a time. Dealers in 1994 sold the Sephia, and a few years later the United States line expanded with the addition of the Sportage.

surged to multi-month highs amidst sharp losses in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and other key asset classes, setting the stage for continued strength. The Dow Jones FXCM Dollar Index easily broke psychologically significant resistance at the 10,000 mark and currently boasts its strongest 20-day appreciation since the height of the financial crisis in 2008. Momentum clearly favors the topside, but traders should be careful of sharp corrections ahead of what promises to be a critical week for the US Dollar and broader financial markets.
End-of-week US Nonfarm Payrolls data headlines foreseeable event risk for the world’s largest economy, but traders should be equally mindful of any surprises out of a European finance ministers meeting on Wednesday. Euro Zone tensions hit fever pitch this week as a failed German bond auction exacerbated sell-offs in Spanish and Italian bonds. Italy paid a whopping 7.81 percent for 2-year bonds in its most recent auction—up substantially from the 4.63 percent seen last month. Standard and Poor’s poured salt in the Euro Zone’s wounds as it downgraded Belgium’s sovereign credit rating for the first time since 1997. The doom and gloom in Europe was enough to push the US Dollar to significant highs, but the focus on Europe ignores key fundamental risks in the US economy.
US Treasury Bonds rallied despite news that the so-called Super Committee failed to agree upon fresh budget cuts ahead of its self-prescribed deadline. The lack of action from the group of legislators underlines the political acrimony in the current government and growing credit risk for the US Treasury. London (CNN) – The U.S. Federal Reserve, European Central Bank and other central banks Wednesday took co-ordinated action to oil the wheels of the world's financial system.
The move came as Olli Rehn, Europe's Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, warned the eurozone was entering a critical phrase to solve its debt crisis, which has deepened since Greece took its first bailout in May 2010. Rehn said the region has "10 days to complete and conclude the crisis response of the European Union."

The 2012 installment of the $10.6 million tournament in the Spanish capital will be the first time an officially sanctioned Tour event will be played on a blue clay court -- a departure from the traditional red associated most closely with the French Open and Roland Garros.
It is the brainchild of Ion Tiriac, a former player who won a French Open doubles title in 1970, who is convinced the switch of colors will benefit the sport's star players and spectators watching in person and on television.
The blue clay is made exactly the same way as the red, with specially dyed bricks being ground into tiny fragments, before two different layers are spread over the court.
Tiriac also pioneered the first blue hard courts and says the switch to blue clay is a logical step.
"On the blue court, the contrast is much better," he told CNN. "I'm sure the spectators are going to say, 'Wow, we can see the ball better.' It's proved scientifically the ball and the contrast is at least 15 per cent better on the blue than the red.

Cairo (CNN) -- Initial results of Egypt's first parliamentary elections since the fall of President Hosni Mubarak are due as early as Thursday.
The Muslim Brotherhood and the Al Noor Salafi Muslim Party -- both Islamist parties -- claimed a lead in ballot counting, but election officials have been tight-lipped about any results.
Voting took place Monday and Tuesday, the first in a multi-step process to pick members of the lower house of Parliament.
Those lawmakers will then be tasked with drafting a new constitution.
It was the first time some Egyptians -- young and old -- had ever cast ballots after three decades of rule under Mubarak, who was ousted in February after weeks of protests.
Some voters and human rights activists expressed hope that their votes will actually count, though some boycotted the elections saying they don't trust the voting will be free and fair.
There were reports of some illegal campaigning taking place, with the Egyptian Association of Human Rights alleging some cases of vote-buying in the city of Alexandria.
